Yoketown…

Day 1185:

My friend Fon was in town from Hong Kong wanting to promote and test his new app Yoketown, so I took him around my favorite town.

And I introduced him to pops.

After ordering the miso ramen…

pops convinced us to try his specialty natto chahan. The best natto chahan in town!

And then pops gave us a free onsen tamago. A fitting end, wouldn’t you say?

Thanks for stopping by Fon!! Good luck with the app and maybe I’ll see you in HK soon!

Or back in Tokyo!

Disassembly…

Day 1184:

Over the years I’ve slurped countless bowls of ramen.

All very unique in their own right.

And now it’s time to disassemble my favorites.

And then reassemble them.

With a twist uniquely my own.

And this is where the fun begins.

Mabo bball…

Day 1183:

It was a mabo day.

And for the first time in over 3 years, I picked up a basketball in Tokyo. It was a Texas-sized gym, but I was way out of shape for this. haha.

Not trying to be cheesy either.

huh? NY?

Taniguchi Shokudo ラー博…

Day 1179:

To my surprise, I received a letter in the mail regarding a special invite-only pre-opening for the newest shop at the Shinyokohama Raumen Museum.

Replacing the legendary Kurume Taiho for the next few months…

Is Taniguchi Shokudo (谷口食堂) hailing from Kochi, a town in the small island of Shikoku.

Apparently, Kochi is famous for Nabeyaki Ramen.

If you don’t know what that is…

Then let’s just say it’s hot, really really hot.

Each bowl is brought to a serious boil before the noodles are added.

And it’s hot.

Really really hot! Did I say that already?

Anyway, there are a few ways to slurp it, but dipping it in the raw egg “sukiyaki-style” was perhaps my favorite.

Very, very interesting.

Thank you Nakano-san for the invitation!!

You didn’t think I’d leave after only one bowl did you?

Ahhh…Karamiso Ramen from Ryushanhai.

Never disappoints.

Alright, now we can leave.

Okagesama…

Day 1178:

My first visit to Okagesama in Sasazuka was impressive.

But it’s been less and less so each time I’ve been back.

Doesn’t the color look similar?

Anyway, I made a new soup today and it wasn’t bad.

MO! CA!…

Day 1176:

moca: im coming to tokyo! jan 20 -23. you are going to take me and rob to try different types of ramen. when are you free?
me: 22!

moca is back in Japan!!! and say hello to Rob!

They wanted ramen so I took them to one of my favorite shops.

Soranoiro is outstanding!

Thanks for the free dessert!

After a little AKB R&R, we made it to Ameyoko for 48 more minutes of fun.

Then moca wanted more ramen.

Menya Musashi Bukou (麺屋武蔵武骨)

This is definitely not the moca I remember.

Thanks to Rob for changing her. haha.

The rest of the night was filled with shrimp…

Fat perverts turned skinny elvissises…

And stupid 100 year anniversary notifications 88 years from now.

At least the ramen is still good.

bye moca!
